On May 5, 2025, Vermont’s Governor signed into law Morristown’s first official Town Charter, following its approval by local voters on November 5, 2024. This important milestone establishes Morristown as a municipal corporation under its own charter, while affirming the continued application of Vermont’s general municipal laws unless specifically modified.
At the heart of the charter is the designation of a Town Manager system of government, ensuring professional administration and accountability in carrying out the policies set by the Selectboard. The Town Manager serves as the chief executive officer of the Town, overseeing daily operations, managing staff, and supporting effective and transparent local governance.
By adopting this charter, Morristown strengthens its foundation for consistent, efficient, and responsive town management—grounded in both state law and the needs of our community.
