**Public Notice: Jersey Heights Stormwater Project Update**
Construction of the new stormwater infrastructure at Jersey Heights has been underway for approximately two weeks, as of 7-16-26. The project is progressing as planned, and the following summary provides an overview of completed work and anticipated next steps.
**Work Completed to Date**
During the first week, crews focused on site preparation and installation of erosion prevention and sediment control (EPSC) measures. This included construction of a stabilized construction entrance (SCE) using fractured stone to minimize the tracking of soil off-site. Silt fencing was installed along the lower limits of disturbance to contain sediment within the permitted work area.
Initial clearing activities were also completed. This included removal of select birch trees behind 137 Foss Street and a stand of sumac west of the future wetland pond. Cleared materials were processed and stored on-site for reuse in sediment filtration. Topsoil was stripped from the work area and stockpiled for later use.
Excavation for the first segment of stormwater piping began at the outlet of the system near the proposed wetland forebay. Groundwater was encountered during excavation, and controlled dewatering operations were implemented. Water was directed through a series of grassed swales, stone check dams, and filtration measures to ensure sediment was removed prior to discharge. Water clarity was monitored throughout this process.
In the second week, installation of stormwater infrastructure continued. To date, approximately 300 feet of 18-inch high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe and two precast catch basins have been installed. Work is progressing from the lowest elevation upward to allow proper drainage during construction.
**Upcoming Work and Traffic Impacts**
Construction is expected to reach the sidewalk area between 101 and 151 Foss Street around midday on Monday, July 20. The sidewalk in this area will be temporarily closed; however, vehicle traffic on Foss Street is expected to remain open at that time.
Tentatively, beginning Wednesday, July 22, crews anticipate crossing Foss Street with stormwater piping. This work will require a full closure of Foss Street to through traffic during daytime construction hours for approximately two days.
Closure of Jersey Way is expected to follow during the subsequent week. Additional updates will be provided as the schedule progresses.
The Town appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during this important infrastructure improvement project.
