Primary or General Elections: 45 days before election day

Town or School Elections: 20 days before election day

The deadline to request your absentee/early ballot is by 4:00 PM on the day before the election.

The deadline to return your absentee/early ballot is at the polling location by 7:00 PM on election day.

Returning your ballot before Election Day 

• Drop off in the secure official drop box in front of the Morristown Municipal Building
• Hand deliver to the Morristown Town Clerk’s Office
• Mail your ballot: place the Voted Ballot Certificate Envelope inside the pre-addressed mailing envelope

Returning your ballot on Election Day 

• Drop off your ballot at your polling location by 7:00 PM

Military and overseas voters can request absentee ballots in their Vermont Voter Portal, by phone, fax, email, or mail.

You may choose to receive your blank ballot and return envelope by email, fax, or mail.

➡️ Important:
Under Vermont law, voted ballots must be returned by mail (not by fax or email) inside the absentee certificate envelope with your original signature.

If you are sick or have a disability, a ballot can be delivered to your home on Election Day. You may request an absentee ballot up until 4 p.m. on the day before the election. Two justices of the peace (of different parties when possible) will deliver a ballot to you, and then will bring the ballot back to the polling place so that it can be placed in the ballot box and counted.

A ballot may be marked “defective” if:

• The voter is not legally qualified to vote.
• The voter has already voted in person.
• The certificate on the ballot envelope is missing a signature.
• The voted ballot is not inside the ballot envelope.
• In a primary election, the voter failed to return unused primary ballots.

If your ballot is marked defective, you will be notified within three days of the clerk receiving the ballot and will have a chance to fix the error so you ballot can be counted.
